Civic Beautification Projects

The club plants and maintains many gardens on land owned by the Town of Hampstead.  All club members work at one of the sites below to beautify our town from early spring to the end of the growing season. They prepare the gardens in the spring, maintain them during the summer, and put them to bed in the fall.

  •  Ordway Park Commemorative Gardens Ordway Park Master Plan

  •  Veterans Memorial Gardens

  •  Public Library Gardens

  •  Sign Island Garden

  •  Fire Station Planter

  •  Butterfly Garden at Shop Pond

  •  Police Station, Meeting House & Museum Gardens

Deck the Halls

A committee plans our annual holiday decorations  which the club members create and place on several town buildings and signs in November to bring New England charm and spirit to Hampstead.

Gorham Grant

The Gorham Grant was established in honor of Michael Gorham, Hampstead resident, who believed in the education of our town youth and the appreciation and stewardship of our community resources.

Each year, up to $250 is awarded to a Hampstead school to fund a garden project about gardening or natural resources in town. This grant encourages the conservation of natural resources and environmental studies by young gardeners in an educational setting.

In 2011 the grant will be awarded to Heather Burkett of the Hampstead Central School. She enthusiastically teaches all 22 of her Grade 3 students the elements of hydroponics gardening from germination to composting. She will use the grant money to purchase supplies for this project. Ms. Burkett linked her project with the Hampstead School District Mission of “providing challenging education experiences...” to her own mission as a conservationist that recognizes man’s interdependence with the environment; the need to conserve, protect and renew natural resources; and minimize our carbon footprint. All of these goals are in accord with Hampstead Garden Club’s mission and the wishes of the Gorham family.

President Pat Milone presents the 2011 Gorham Grant to Heather Burkett, center,
accompanied by Sheila Gorham Wentworth.  Mrs. Burkett's third
grade class is very excited about this new learning opportunity.
